Resumo do trabalho

Trabalho escolar em inglês sobre o ecoturismo (Ecotourism), realizado no âmbito da disciplina de Inglês (11º ano).

Ecotourism, or ecological tourism, is a form of tourism which appeals to:

  • the ecologically and socially conscious;
  • focuses on local culture, wilderness adventures, volunteering, personal growth, and learning new ways to live on the planet;
  • typically involving travel to destinations where flora, fauna, and cultural;
  • heritage are the primary attractions.

Responsible ecotourism includes:

  • programs that minimize the negative aspects of conventional tourism on the environment, and enhance the cultural integrity of local people;
  • the promotion of recycling, energy efficiency, water conservation, and creation of economic opportunities for the local communities.

Ideally, ecotourism should satisfy several criteria, such as:

  • A way of practising tourism on small scale
  • Minimization of tourism's own environmental impact
  • A more active and intense way of doing tourism.
  • It is practised by acknowledged and educated people, aware of the environmental and ecological issues.
  • Conservation of biological diversity and cultural diversity, through ecosystem
  • Protection promotion of sustainable use of biodiversity, by providing jobs to local populations
  • Increase of environmental & cultural knowledge
  • Affordability and lack of waste in the form of luxury

The ten commandments of the eco tourist

  1. You shall love nature above all things.
  2. You shall honour and preserve the good humour.
  3. You shall be always ready to cooperate.
  4. You shall be able to adapt to the  unexpected.
  5. You shall use only official guides.
  6. You shall not complain.
  7. You shall not call the guide's name in vain to ask him how  long it takes to arrive.
  8. You shall not kill mosquitos, ants and ticks
  9. You shall not consider rain, damps or broken bridges as unpredictables.
  10. You shall not  pollute the environment.

The three commandments of ecotourism:

  • You don't take nothing from nature except photos.
  • You shall leave nothing but footsteps.
  • You take nothing but memories.

Not everything is paradise in ecotourism.

Some critics say that  even if ecotourists believe that because they are only taking pictures and leaving footprints, they keep ecotourism sites pristine, even harmless sounding activities such as a nature hike can be ecologically destructive.
